What Do I Do if My Phone is Showing the Wrong Time?

If your phone is showing the wrong time (for example - after Daylight Savings Time switch), it's possible that the time zone is not correctly set for your account.  It is the account time zone setting that controls the time on your auto-provisioned SIP phone.

Note: For customers with users whose time zone differs than that of the account, the Account Operator should enable the user to change the time zone via their personal settings.
  1. Log into www.aptela.com/my-account/ as the Account Operator
  2. Select Settings from the Navigation Bar
  3. Under "Account Settings" section, click on Time Zone
  4. Make sure the time zone setting is set correctly, or make appropriate changes and Save.  Below are the recommended settings:
    • For Eastern Time, select "GMT: -5:00 EST5EDT"
    • For Central Time, select "GMT: -6:00 CST6CDT"
    • For Mountain Time, select "GMT: -7:00 MST7MDT"
    • For persons in Arizona, select "GMT: -7:00 US/Arizona"
    • For Pacific Time, select "GMT: -8:00 PST8PDT"
  5. For customers with users whose time zone differs than that of the account, click on the check box next to "User can override setting."  With this enabled, the user can set his/her unique time zone via the user account by logging in to the user account, selecting 'Settings' from the Navigation Bar, clicking on 'Time Zone' under "Personal Settings" section, selecting the appropriate time zone (above lists the recommended settings), and saving changes.
  6. Power cycle your SIP phone (unplug it & plug it in again). If your phone is set-up for auto-configuration (all phones purchased through Aptela are auto-configured), it will automatically install new firmware and sync the appropriate time with the settings in your Aptela profile.

If you need to setup your Polycom, Aastra, Grandstream or Linksys phone for auto-configuration, see the the Phones and Adapters section of the knowledge base:

If your phone has never been setup for auto-configuration, you should also reset your local configuration. To reset local configuration, follow the steps below:
  1. On your phone,select Menu
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Advanced
  4. Enter the Password: 456 then hit Enter or Check Mark
  5. Select Admin Settings
  6. Select Reset to Default
  7. Select Reset Local Config
