Configuring Grandstream phones

Aptela does not provide free service and support for Grandstream phones.

We have tested the Aptela auto-configuration process on the below Grandstream phone models. The instructions below should help you to walk through this process and get started using your phone.

Step 1:  Assign the phone to a user

  1. Log into the website at http://www.aptela.com/my-account/
    • Users:
      • Select Settings from the Navigation Bar
      • Click on My Account
    • Account Operators:
      • Select People from the Navigation Bar
      • Click the name for the user(s) you wish to make changes to
  2. When the Edit Standard User page opens, scroll to VoIP Settings
  3. Scroll to VoIP Settings and click on Launch Phone Tool
  4. A web browser will open to My Phone Configuration. Click on “Configure Phone
  5. Enter the MAC Address of the phone for this user and hit Next
  6. Read the next page and click Close

Step 2:  Log into the phone's Web interface

  1. Locate your phone's IP address. On the phone, go to the Menu and Option 2.
  2. Open a browser window and enter the phone's IP address into the web browser as a destination. Example:  http://123.12.12.123
  3. When asked for a password, you'll need to type the advanced password.  By default that is: admin

Step 3:  Configure your Grandstream device

  1. Set Firmware Upgrade and Provisioning to HTTP
  2. Set Firmware Server Path to http://provisioning.aptela.com/grandstream/firmware
  3. Set Config Server Path to http://provisioning.aptela.com/grandstream/<ftpUserID>
    • e.g. If your ftp userID is 1234567, set it to http://provisioning.aptela.com/grandstream/configs/1234567
  4. Set Config File Prefix to <phoneType>
    • e.g., If your phone is a Budgetone 100/101, set it to bt100
Phone Types
  • GXP2000: phoneType is gxp2000
  • BT100/101 series: phoneType is bt100
  • HT486 Rev 2/3 series: phoneType is bt100
  • BT200 series: phoneType is bt200

Once the phone has rebooted, log into the phone's web interface again on your computer and validate that it has the latest version of the firmware. Problems preventing this from happening can include:
  • Authenticate Conf File is set to Yes (it should be No)
  • If the firmware version is very old, you may need to first update it, then enter the Config Server Path
