How Do I Change My Phone's Caller ID?

Outbound Caller ID has 2 components: a phone number and a name.

The Caller ID phone number can be changed1 by logging into the Aptela application as operator. Go to the "People" tab, select any user and "edit" that user's profile. Within the "Edit Power User" window, scroll to "VoIP Settings" and enter the Caller ID number you wish to display.

The field is Custom Caller ID. It must be 10 digits and should not be a toll free number (TFN). Many telephone providers will refuse or drop calls if the Caller ID is a toll-free number number.

The name portion of Caller ID is stored with the main account information. If you would like this updated, please submit a Support Ticket and be sure to specify in the web form the phone number and a 15 digit maximum caller ID.

Note: extension-to-extension calls carries the user name (as setting the account profile) rather than the main company caller ID.

1Any carrier that touches a call can change the Caller ID information based on information they have stored within their database. Unfortunately, Aptela cannot enforce changes at that level.
