DLink Router Configuration

Most D-Link Small Office/Home Office routers are plug-and-play.  However, there may be some models where you will have to make additional changes to the configuration in order to get the phones to make and receive calls.

If your phones do not work behind the D-Link router initially, you may need to set up port forwarding on the router.  The Aptela VoIP server may require the router to open specific ports in order for the phones to function correctly.  When a request for a certain SIP port comes in from the Aptela VoIP server, the router will route the data to the phone you specify.

To configure port forwarding on a D-Link router, you will need to access the web interface of the router.

1.  Enter the IP address of the router into a web browser, as shown below, and  hit the Enter key.  Note, the IP address may vary depending on your network, but default the IP may be:  192.168.0.1

2.  You will be prompted for user name & password.  The user name is:  admin.   Enter your router's password to login.  If you have not set one up before, you may not need to enter one (just leave the field blank and hit Ok).  Check your router manual for more information.

3.  Once logged in, click on the Advanced tab, and then the Applications link.  (see image below)

4.  Configure the following fields

Click Enabled

Name:  VoIP Phones

Trigger Port
  • Start Port =  5060
  • End Port = 50xx
The end port needs to be 5060 + the number of phones you have registered.  You may want to add some extra ports in case of adding future employees.   So if you have 10 employees, you may want to use 5080 (5060 + 10 + 10 extra).

Trigger Type:  UDP

Public Port:  5060

Public Type:  UDP

Once you are finished, press the green Apply button and the router will save the new settings with the new settings.
