Business VoIP A-Z: November Edition

In our fourth edition of Business VoIP A-Z, we continue highlighting some widely used VoIP-related abbreviations. Whether you're just learning about VoIP or are a telecom/VoIP expert, these abbreviations will help you become more knowledgeable and VoIP savvy.

  1. Call Detail Record (CDR) - A computer record produced by a telephone exchange containing details of a phone call that passed through it.
  2. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) - An auto configuration protocol used on IP networks.
  3. Local Area Network (LAN) - A computer network that connects computers and devices covering a local geographical area, like a home, office or school.
  4. Session Initiation Protocol Connection (SIP connection) - A VoIP service offered by many Internet telephony service providers that connects a company's private branch exchange (PBX) to the public switched telephone network via the Internet.
  5. Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) - A wireless local area network that links two or more devices using some wireless distribution method, which gives users mobility to move around within a local coverage area and still be connected to the network.
